When I wrote the word ‘infinitude’ yesterday I didn’t think it was a real word. I had to look it up and it turns out it is! If I just waited until today to look it up I wouldn’t have had to. Tozer used it! Maybe you already knew it was a word and I just need to read more. Anyway, I'm thankful for this reminder from Tozer today. God’s Love, Mercy, and Grace are infinite but that doesn’t negate or diminish His equally infinite Justice, or vengeance. His Love has a standard and His Love made a way to meet it. We can’t meet it ourselves because He is God and we are not. News flash! I think this is a reason why many of the Psalms have pauses built in. In this life we can’t hold some of these attributes of God in our minds simultaneously. Fortunately God is not subject to our comprehension. He just IS.
Selah.
To pause the mind from constantly running, especially in a culture like ours, is necessary to see God. I used to think I didn’t have time for things like prayer and meditation but now I know I don’t really have time at all. It’s all His. He allows me to use some and I am thankful for that. So I can’t really use it well without thinking about Him. I think this is an aspect of the mind of Christ. Obviously, I’m not perfect at it, so don't read it like that. But when Jesus was walking the earth with his people, he was constantly in tune with the voice of the Lord. He never spoke on His own but only what he heard the Father say (John 12). Often Jesus went away to pray at seemingly inopportune times. But I’m starting to realize that if we don’t ever pause the World will eat you for dinner. If you keep your eyes fixed on it throughout the day, if you never take your eyes off of the problems constantly screaming at you, you will be consumed by the wrong thing. If you don’t go away to pray, you will be destroyed. Solving those problems on your own will not help you. It is only in Jesus that we have any hope for infinite completeness.
