Daily Pursuit Every Day: May 10
Is God bigger than the boogy man? Even the boogy man hiding inside of you?
I used to be such a brat when I read the Bible or took the time to pray. When I didn't understand a passage right away I would be annoyed that God didn't make it perfectly clear for me. My prayers, too, were more like those of a spoiled child pouting for more dessert and throwing a tantrum when I didn't get what I wanted exactly the way I wanted it. There's a very good reason God conceals Himself. It would literally kill us forever to see Him as He really is in the state we are now. That's the last thing He wants because He loves us and He likes us. When I was a big baby Christian I felt like God owed me His favor and was bitter when I didn't get it. I was dictating my will to Him. I went to Him to get what I want, not to learn what He wants. How blindly arrogant!
I love how David puts it in Psalm 27 found at the beginning of today's Tozer reading:
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
Psalm 27:4 KJV
Is He your one thing? Take a second to think about it.
I marvel at the fact that David could say that honestly in a prayer of praise to the Lord. But thinking more about it, we all can honestly say that. We just don't realize it yet. A quote from the video I put at the end of yesterday's post says:
“God’s going to allow [doubt] not so he can see how strong our faith is. He already knows. But so we can.”

Don’t be deceived. He is surely making you into someone whose only trusted & treasured possession is Him. This definitely hurts sometimes and it breaks my heart to let go of some things. But some things are harmful to me and deadly to my relationship with Jesus. When I see myself the way He sees me, the decision is easy but the Way is hard.
Cut it off.
