Daily Pursuit Every Day: May 13
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:14 ESV
Gee, it's almost as if Jesus knew what He was talking about when he said the road is broad and the gate is wide that leads to destruction. Which way to go is not for us to decide but whether or not we walk it is. The world hurls distractions our way to try to get us to waver from the path, to the right or to the left. But Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. We don't take orders from anyone or anything but God Himself. We don't look for correction or guidance from anyone else. He is our companion and Jesus is our Brother. Our Brother!
It's hard to see Jesus as our brother if we only see Him on the Cross. We also have to see Him raised and ascended (still in human form!) sitting at the right hand of God. His Spirit is with us and has been with us, from the beginning, re-forming us into Him. Even over the dark, chaotic seas, He is moving, even brooding (Strong’s). Like an older brother hearing about his younger brother getting bullied at school. Satan did not see that coming. I’m sure he thought he made his own little kingdom when he turned the hearts of Man toward disobedience. But our Lord and Savior is coming as a conquering man to conquer!
Divorcing from the world and then identifying and marrying ourselves to Jesus takes time and focus. Look at your life. What do you spend most of your time on and why? Talk to Him about it too. Because we can come up with all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify why we do what we do but He knows better. You can't trick Him. He knows our hearts much better than we know our own. He will guide you in all righteousness and cause you to remember everything you've been taught. So the only way to see the straight and narrow well enough to walk it is to be as close to the Light as we can; in our words, in our conduct, in our thoughts. Holy worship from a holy human is the result of walking a lifelong path lit by the Light of the Word of Christ.
