Daily Pursuit Every Day: May 29
When we feel far from God, where can we look to find the disconnect?
Throughout my teenage years my relationship with God was, I guess, prodigal. I didn’t go ‘hog-wild’ like he did in the parable but I came and went. I would be cold, then hot, then cold again. I remember thinking it was the Lord that was leaving me. A summer or winter youth retreat would bring Him back to me but as soon as I returned to my ‘real life,’ my eyes, my focus would shift back onto myself. And out would flow all the sin I just made a commitment to kill.
Tozer talked yesterday and today about the unchanging nature of God. He is grace. He is grace when He gave Moses the Law. He is grace when He died on the Cross. He is still pouring out Grace as He dwells within our hearts today. During my ‘prodigal years’ I wasn’t thinking about this. I thought what I needed was a dose or a deposit of Grace every once in a while so that I could continue spending it on my own life, how I saw fit. How foolish I was!
Do not be deceived. Grace is your Life. Your ‘real life’ is the one in the Lord, not the one in the World. Come to yourself, like the prodigal son! The Grace of true Life will always be found in the heart of God. It has always been infinitely available to you and it always will be. Keep open the flow of Grace. The weapons we can use to keep the world at bay so that we can fix our eyes on Him are prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. Use them! Don’t neglect them. They are literally our Life. We know because Life Himself told us so. Make them a habit and they will transform your mind. That’s a promise! A constant overflow of Grace is for you, completely bought and paid for. As Christians we can’t see straight without these practices.
When I felt far from God, He didn’t go anywhere. I stopped looking for Him.
My wife Alysha and I host a podcast called Disrupt the Comfort. In it we discuss what the Lord has been teaching us and how the Lord is moving us out of darkness into light. Look us up on YouTube or Spotify.
