Daily Pursuit Every Day: May 4
Is Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Life or can I figure this out on my own?
Revelation and illumination. I am so glad Tozer used these words to describe how to know what God is like. Anything we know about God is a gift of grace from God. He loves us so much that even while we were His enemies He revealed Himself to us. This revelation is completely outside of us. We can’t manufacture God without His input and we can’t do anything good enough to earn Him either. It’s all grace given. Everything we know about God, both collectively and personally, was given to us by God. No one deserved it. No one earned it. He revealed it to us and illuminates it in us. He resurrects us out of death and darkness simply by making Himself known to us. He made himself known to us in His Son. Tonight I’m publishing a little sermon on Hebrews 1:1-2 about this very revelation and how essential to life it is to us. But the works only work, they only make us new if we believe the One who revealed it. Faith in the Person changes us, changes our hearts. Faith in the works doesn’t change us at all. It simply masks the symptoms of sin from the sight of others and we are deceived to think we can trick God with them too. But our guilt and shame continue to destroy us on the inside. Like Lady Macbeth, we can never get rid of the blood on our hands. We need new ones.
“No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
Matthew 9:16-17
Immediately after saying this, Jesus raised a little girl from the dead. Think about that.
My wife Alysha and I host a podcast called Disrupt the Comfort. In it we discuss what the Lord has been teaching us and how the Lord is moving us out of darkness into light. Look us up on YouTube or Spotify.
